A repayment mortgage is where the amount you have borrowed together with the interest charged is paid off over a specified time (usually 25 years at the start of a mortgage). Providing all the monthly payments are kept up to date at the end of the term there will be no outstanding debt.

As suggested you pay only the interest on the amount you have borrowed to the mortgage provider. This means you need to also make a monthly payment into an investment vehicle so you can build up a lump sum to clear the mortgage debt at a specified date. Regular reviews would be required to ensure the investment vehicle is on target to repay the debt.
